WTMA in Washington, D.C.

Well-Trained Mind AcademyGeneral Education, History

During WTMA in Washington, D.C. day students visited several sites in the D.C. area and posed in front of the Washington Monument.

On the first day of Spring Break several Well-Trained Mind Academy students, guardians, and staff met up to explore Washington, D.C. All of our department chairs were able to attend–Mr. Caro, Frau Edwards, Mrs. Quintero, and Dr. Roudabush–as well as writing and literature instructor Mrs. Strickler, science instructor Mrs. Neace, and Academy dean Julia Collier. The WTMA in Washington, D.C. gathering was a highlight of the week as meeting WTMA students in person is one of the best parts of being on WTMA faculty or staff.

The whole gang!

The day started at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. We all gathered at the Berns Quartz to meet each other and pick up a scavenger hunt created just for WTMA students. Soon after, small groups split off in search of answers to the clues on their sheet.

Our group worked up an appetite after all the scavenger hunt. Everyone enjoyed lunch at Sweet Home Café at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture. Exhibit Fabricator, and WTMA parent, Eric Hammesfahr then met up with the group for a tour of the museum’s exhibits, starting with Afrofuturism.

The weather on the WTMA in Washington, D.C. day was gorgeous. We strolled the National Mall and ate some delicious soft-serve ice cream. The day ended with a visit to the Lincoln Memorial. The walk along the reflecting pool was lovely, as was the company!

The WTMA in Washington, D.C. day was fantastic. We had so much fun meeting students and parents in person. It is especially heartwarming to see long-time online friends meet for the first time in real life. We are looking forward to our next meet-up. Now, to decide where…  🙂
