Music Theory A
Full-year course. In Music Theory A, students will develop a deeper understanding of melody, harmony, rhythm, and notation. They will learn how to create, manipulate, and analyze chord progressions and the formal structure in instrumental works of the past as well as the present. They will engage in a variety of assignments, including book work, ear training, performing, and composing.
Students who complete Music Theory A will be prepared to take the Grade 4 exam from the exam board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and the Level 6 Royal College of Music (RCM) exam.

- Class meets twice per week for 50-55 minutes.
- Class cap: 15 students.
- Designed for grades 9-12.
- High school students may be awarded 1 Fine Arts credit upon completion of this course.
