Well-Trained Mind Academy at Monticello: Spring Break 2025

Our Well-Trained Mind Academy community enjoyed a gorgeous first day of Spring Break together at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello in Charlottesville, Virginia. We had families join us from Virginia and nearby Maryland, as well as from far away as New Hampshire and Texas!

After meeting at the base of the “little mountain,” we shuttled up to the house to participate in the “Highlights Tour,” which guides visitors through the first floor of Monticello. We split into two groups and then were led by expert docents to the Entrance Hall of the main house, through the Library, Cabinet, Bed Chamber, and finally the Dining Room.

After the tour we were able to explore under the house as well as the surrounding gardens. Of course we took a group picture on Monticello’s steps before heading back down the hill for lunch.

We were so lucky to have two of our graduating seniors from the Cohort Class of 2025 in attendance, Caroline Gilbert and Valentin Wunderlich. Caroline and Valentin have been in advising sessions and speaker presentations for years; that they were able to meet in person before moving on to the next big thing was very special! We also got to spend time with senior Chloe Mendoza, who started her classes at WTMA when she was in California and kept going without interruption when she moved to Virginia. We are so proud of all of our graduating students!
We all had so much fun at our Spring Break Monticello event. The sunny day was made so much brighter by the smiling faces of our WTMA families. We made some special memories, especially with our graduating seniors, and can’t wait to do it again next year. We are thinking “Destination Philadelphia!” Don’t forget – drop us a line if you have a suggestion for a community event!
