The Well-Trained Mind Academy is seeking a part-time German instructor to teach live, online sections of German during the 2025-2026 school year. The classes are geared toward middle school and high school students. We offer levels German 1-4/5.
Position Description
Our world language instructors use a combination of Comprehensible Input and explicit grammatical instruction, fitting with the goals of a classical education. Applicants should be well versed in second language acquisition theory and the ACTFL world-readiness standards for language learning. The successful candidate will be comfortable instructing and evaluating students with a goal of developing proficiency in the target language.
For the 2025-26 school year, we are looking for an instructor to teach two of our already scheduled classes.
Classes are currently scheduled as follows; all times are in the Eastern Time Zone:
German 1a (middle school German): M/W 10 11 am
German 1b (middle school German): M/W 1-2 pm
German 1: T/Th 10-11:15 am
German 2: T/Th 11:30 am-12:45 pm
German 3: M/W 2-3:15 pm
German 4/5: M/W 11 am-12:15 pm
*There may be some flexibility with these scheduled times. Which courses the candidate will take will be discussed on an individual basis. .
Job Responsibilities:
- Plan engaging activities that support student language acquisition
- Encourage interaction between students
- Provide effective live instruction, including making learning goals clear to students and using appropriate instructional techniques
- Keep the learning environment positive. Outside material brought into the class will be conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
- Maintain course pacing and meet the standards outlined for the course, so that students meet the learning objectives for the units.
- Provide clear and actionable feedback on all assignments in a timely manner.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in German or a related field
- Demonstrable skill in teaching introductory level German
- Native or near-native German speakers
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching online
- 5+ years of experience teaching German
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the secondary level
- Experience instructing a diverse student population
- Uses technology to deliver instruction effectively
The position advertised is a US-based position. Compensation
Compensation is $5,600/section for the academic year (Our academic year consists of two 17 week semesters: 16 weeks of instruction, 1 exam week). This compensation includes preparing for and teaching the live sessions, grading student work, and all related email communication.

The Well-Trained Mind Academy is seeking a part-time Chemistry instructor to teach live, online sections of Advanced Placement high school chemistry.
Interested application may apply for one, or both, positions:
- Taking over AP Chemistry for the fourth quarter of this academic year, and
- The instructor will take over our current AP Chemistry lecture and lab starting Monday, March 17, and finishing up the school year in May.

- The instructor will offer one section of AP Chemistry lecture and one section of lab for the 2025-2026 school year.
- AP Chemistry lecture and lab for the 2025-26 school year will be scheduled with the instructor during regular school hours (Eastern Time Zone in the US).
Position Description
Our science programs use a classical approach to education. Instructors should be comfortable using socratic discussion in classes and allowing students to experiment with methods of solving problems.
AP Chemistry meets twice a week for 1 hour and 15 minutes (three contact hours) and the lab meets once a week for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

- Assists students in preparing for the AP Chemistry exam by providing instruction on registering for the exam as well as utilizing strategies and materials suggested by the College Board to familiarize students with the test format.
Classes are taught live using Blackboard Collaborate.
All classes are offered during regular business hours in the Eastern Time Zone. The position requires reliable high-speed internet.

Compensation
Long-term Substitute Compensation:
- Compensation is $1330 for AP Chemistry Lecture and $1015 for AP Chemistry Lab for the period starting March 17, 2025 through the end of the academic year. This compensation includes preparing for and teaching the live sessions, grading student work, and all related email communication.
Academic-year Compensation:
- Compensation is $6650 for AP Chemistry Lecture and $5075 for AP Chemistry Lab for the academic year. (Our academic year consists of two 17 week semesters; with each semester including 16 weeks of instruction, and one exam week.) This compensation includes preparing for and teaching the live sessions, grading student work, and all related email communication.

The Well-Trained Mind Academy is seeking part-time science instructors to teach three live, online sections of high school physics and/or two sections of high school biology as maternity leave coverage. The classes are geared toward high school students.
The long term substitute will cover approximately three weeks of live, online instruction to a small group of students (each section is capped at 15 students).
Our science programs use a classical approach to education. Instructors should be comfortable using socratic discussion in classes and allowing students to experiment with methods of solving problems. Our physics courses are conceptually (not calculus) based.
All sciences courses have a prescribed scope and pacing. The lectures have already been outlined, and the assessments are already written. The substitute instructor will meet the learning goals for the lectures and conduct assessments as outlined in the plans. The instructor provides timely feedback on smaller homework assignments and larger projects.
Position Description
The long-term substitute will teach up to five live classes (three sections of physics and two of biology). All times are listed for the Eastern Time Zone:
- Mon/Wed 11 am Physics

- Tue/Thurs 11 am Biology

Substitutes will be contracted on a weekly basis, at the rate of $130/section/week. A section meets for two or three contact hours a week; compensation covers teaching the live class plus grading.

The Well-Trained Mind Academy is hiring individuals to join our substitute and tutoring pools. Prospective substitutes should have availability to teach live, online sections of mathematics and/or science during the school day (Eastern Time Zone). Prospective tutors are able to hold sessions during working business hours, evenings, and the weekends.

Our mathematics and science programs use a classical approach to education. Instructors should be comfortable using socratic discussion in classes and allowing students to experiment with methods of solving problems.
Position Description
Substitutes are provided with slides, lecture outlines, and assessments. The substitute does not need to develop their own lesson plans, lectures, or assessments; all materials are provided to the substitute.
Mathematics substitutes are capable of tutoring up through Algebra II.
Science substitutes are capable of tutoring high school biology, chemistry, and/or physics, depending on their field of study. Specifically, we are looking for substitutes who can teach either physics (middle school and high school) or biology (middle school).
Classes are taught live using Blackboard Collaborate.
Substitutes are contracted on a course-by-course basis, and for varying durations, depending on needs. All classes are offered during regular business hours in the Eastern Time Zone, and the successful applicant will have consistent part-time availability during the regular school day. Joining the substitute and/or the tutoring pool does not guarantee a minimum number of hours; our substitutes and tutors receive positions on an as-needed basis.
